  12. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  13. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  14. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  15. 1 tsp chilli powder
  16. 2 tsp sambar powder(store bought)use homemade if you have
  17. 1/2 tsp hing/Asafoetida

Steps to make to make Puliyogare/tamarind rice

  1. Firstly heat up oil in a deep sauce pan,add mustard seeds, cumin seeds,red chillies, curry leaves saute it, let it splutter, add in ground nuts& roast it until light brown, add in chana dal & urad dal saute it 2-3 minutes until they turn in to golden in colour,
  2. Lower the flame add in turmeric powder, sambar, powder&chilli powder stir it, strain the tamarind pulp add directly to the tempering, add required amount of salt(to rice quantity)and jaggery, now keep stirring until mixture thickens & oil starts to release,now add in roasted sesame seed powder, &asafoetida...mix well turn off the flame...
  3. Add rice, mix well and combine everything together gently..give 10 minutes rest before serving puliogare/tamarind rice so that rice absorbs all the masala properly.....enjoy the delicious dish
