  1. Dry roast the moong dal till ligh brown. In a pressure cookers take the roasted moong dal after washing. Add turmeric, salt and chopped tomatoes. Cook for 1 whistle and release the pressure immediately.
  2. Heat a pan. Add oil and wait till hot. Add ponch phutan and allow to splutter.
  3. Now add dry chilli, chopped onion, garlic cloves, chopped fresh chilli and saute till aromatic and golden brown.
  4. Then add grated ginger and saute for half a minute. Mix the boiled moong dal with tomatoes. Adjust the seasoning and water for gravy.
  5. Garnish with fresh grated coconut, fresh chilli, curry leaves and lemon juice and serve with rice/roti or as soup.
